Oolong teas are processed according to a three century-old tradition. Think of Oolong as a hybrid between green and black teas. With a subtle complexity, Oolong tea pairs well with a variety of foods, ranging from seafood to grilled meats.
Processed according to a three century-old tradition, the skill of our tea masters reflects in the taste of our tea. Oolong tea originates from Wuyi tea, which was previously used as a tribute tea in the Chinese royal courts. This represented good honour and sealed business opportunities. From 1725, tea producers in Anxi of Fujian province adapted methods of producing Wuyi tea, and Oolong tea was born.
Think of Oolong tea as a hybrid between green and black teas. Due to this unique combination, Oolong tea is clear and fragrant, yet refreshing and strong. It possesses the anti-oxidant rich nature of green tea and much of the caffeine content of black tea. Full of antioxidants, the oolong leaf contains both catechin and caffeine which combat free radicals. Regular consumption has been linked to prevention of high cholesterol and heart disease. Oolong tea is also known to boost metabolism and aid digestion.
Oolong is the most diverse category of tea, with oxidation rates varying from 10%-70%. This versatility and subtle complexity makes it a perfect pair with a variety of foods, ranging from seafood to grilled meats. Enjoy Oolong tea’s rich aroma, filling the senses with fruity and flowery notes and a hint of honey.
Rinse your glassware with hot water prior to adding tea leaves. This will warm up and open the leaves. Add boiled water sitting at 90-100 degrees to a heaped tea spoon of tea for each person. Infuse for 1-2 minutes and enjoy!
